Chinton Academy is probably the only school in town to teach both Rabindrasangeet and Indian Classical vocal music to students, under the guidance of the same teacher, Sounak Chattopadhyay, a much acclaimed exponent of both art forms.
The Annual Concert on the 2nd of June would be in association with EZCC.
The theme of this year's concert is Pranaam, a tribute to the torchbearers of Bengali traditional and Hindustani classical music.
The programme will be presented in two halves. The first half will feature songs of Bengal's 5 seer poets known as Panchakabi. Rabindranath Tagore, Nazrul Islam, Atulprasad Sen, Dwijendra Lal Roy and Rajanikanta Sen, along with Satyajit Ray and Salil Chowdhury.
The second half will be a tribute to pathfinders of Hindustani classical music like Pt. VN Bhatkhande, Pt. SN Ratanjankar, Pt. DV Paluskar, Abdul Karim Khansahab, Faiyaz Khansahab, Amir Khansahab, Bade Ghulam Ali Khansahab and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi among others.
